First Marelli's Poetry Night a Success

The well-attended session will likely lead to another.

By Karen Raynes

This first poetry gathering at Marelli's Market took place in the cozy back room art galley of the the store. Poets, writers and friends
came together to share the common bond of fellow artists.

The theme was "Talk about Love, Flowers and Broken Hearts."

The main contributor to the show was Matt Gillis. He was introduced by Marcia Hannon as an expressive, soulful, flamboyant, talented, and entertaining poet. He did not disappoint with his powerful poems including his last poem of the night about love that as he stepped to the podium he rolled from a large scroll across the floor.

The podium itself was a work of art, which Matt's friend Rhonda had made for the event. Other poets who stepped to the podium were, Elly Becotte, who embellished her poem with hand puppets, Nancy Donovan, Karen Raynes, Candy Stellmach, Jim Stellmach, Casey Cooper, and Rhonda all contributed poetry readings.

Work is underway to plan another special evening at Marelli's in April, National Poetry Month, when the message of the poet's word may be heard.
