Five Things: Puppets and a Day Without Snow
A free event and two tournaments are among the notable things happening on a historic day in movie history.

Good morning, Hampton and North Hampton. Here are five things you need to know for Friday, Dec. 28:
1. Today’s Featured Fun: Lindsay and Her Puppet Pals are coming to Lane Memorial Library at 10 a.m.

The Seacoast-based performer brings a huge collection of beautifully handcrafted, giant hand puppets and marionettes to audiences across New England. Today's library appearance is a free, no-reservation-necessary performance for children ages 3 to 7.

3. This Day in History: On this day in 1895, the world's first commercial movie screening took place at the Grand Cafe in Paris.
The film was made by Louis and Auguste Lumiere, two French brothers who developed a camera-projector called the Cinematographe. The Lumiere brothers unveiled their invention to the public in March 1895 with a brief film showing workers leaving the Lumiere factory.
On December 28, the entrepreneurial siblings screened a series of short scenes from everyday French life and charged admission for the first time.
