Five Things to Do This Weekend: Oct. 19-21

A spooky food drive, three different food-based events, a political visit and a free movie highlight this weekend's offerings.

Looking for something fun to do on the Seacoast this weekend? Here are some ideas (and be sure to tell us about the things you did and show us the pictures you took by e-mailing Editor Kyle Stucker at Kyle.Stucker@Patch.com):

1. Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat: There's a food drive to collect non-perishable food for local pantries at Winnacunnet High School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the auditorium.

The event, called Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat, coincides with Halloween, so expect to see some colorfully-costumed students trying to help out local trick-or-treaters in need.

2. Enjoy Some Good Home Cookin': There are two food-based events in Hampton on Saturday featuring various dishes from local residents.

First, First Baptist Church of Hampton is hosting a Meatloaf and Mashed Potato Community Dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. In theory you have time to go to that, and then go to Trinity Episcopal Church's Chowder Fest 2012, which is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Your scale may not love you after attending both events, but your stomach probably will.

3. Get to Know More About a Big Election Issue: AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler will be in Hampton and North Hampton on Sunday to join workers for a canvass on the Seacoast area.

Shuler will speak at 1 p.m. Sunday at 155 West Road in Portsmouth before the canvass begins in Hampton, North Hampton, Rye and Stratham. Shuler will also be going door-to-door in Hampton in support of President Barack Obama, New Hampshire Democratic gubernatorial candidate Maggie Hassan, and New Hampshire State Senate candidate Bev Hollingworth.

4. Catch a Free Movie: Lane Memorial Library is hosting a free showing of a newly-released, widely-popular movie about a team of superheroes at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

5. Go to a Chili and Beer Festival: Exeter also has a spirited event this weekend for food and drink lovers, and some Hampton-area businesses are expected to participate.

What else is going on? You tell us! There are plenty of other events, but we want to know what you're going to do. Tell us in the comments!
