Gilmanton Man Arrested For Robbery

Hampton Police: Roy McNair, who was out on parole, allegedly assaulted an Ocean Boulevard store employee during a shoplifting incident.

HAMPTON, NH — A shoplifting incident went bad on Ocean Boulevard last week after the alleged perp – a parolee – allegedly assaulted a store clerk during the incident, according to police. Roy McNair, 35, of Gilmanton, was arrested on July 15, 2017, on a felony robbery charge. At around 3 p.m. on Saturday, officers were sent to the store after receiving an abandoned 911 call, according to Sgt. Alex Reno of the Hampton Police Department.

“Police arrived on scene and determined that a man had been confronted by an employee of the shop for shoplifting,” Reno alleged. “Police allege that the man, later identified as McNair, assaulted the employee by repeatedly striking him in the head with his fist after being confronted by the employee.”

McNair fled the scene before police arrived, Reno noted. The victim in the case sustained minor injuries. McNair was captured by another officer a short distance from the store and arrested on a felony robbery charge. Officers also determined that McNair was on parole.

McNair was arraigned on Monday, held on $25,000 cash, and remains in the Rockingham County Jail. He’s due in Seabrook District Court for a probable cause on July 27.

According to posts on Patch, McNair was arrested for theft back in November 2016, in Concord, after an alleged incident at Donovan’s Party & Novelty on Fort Eddy Road. He was indicted on the theft incident earlier this year. Previously, he’s been convicted twice of theft. In November 2011, he was arrested for violation of protective order in Concord against his wife at the time.
