Governor Honors Hampton Beach Village District

Gov. John Lynch commends HBVD, and Hampton Beach Area Commission, for enriching the Seacoast and New Hampshire.

Gov. John Lynch, in Hampton Beach for a meeting with the Executive Council on Oct. 3, recognized the Hampton Beach Village District for its history and continued efforts to enrich the beach community.

The governor's proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, Created in 1907, the Hampton Beach Village District has a long history of improving Hampton Beach, beginning with the installation of electricity and waterworks to improve the safety and comfort of visitors; and

WHEREAS, In 1923, the Hampton Beach Village District established the town’s first fire department which is still in service today on Ashworth Avenue; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Village District has been sponsoring events for both visitors and members of the community since the 1920s and continues to develop new events and attractions to give visitors a memorable stay at Hampton Beach; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Village District strives to provide free, family-orientated entertainment including weekly firework displays, sand sculpting competitions, the Miss Hampton Beach pageant, movies on the beach and talent competitions; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Village District’s playground, which was established in the 1920s, remains a favorite to families that come to Hampton Beach; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Village District has helped to increase tourism and parking revenue for the State of New Hampshire, in addition to its support of local businesses by sponsoring annual events that draw thousands of people to Hampton Beach each year;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN H. LYNCH, GOVERNOR of the State of New Hampshire, and the Executive Council, do hereby commend the members of the HAMPTON BEACH VILLAGE DISTRICT for their dedication and commitment to their community and state, and wish them all the best in the future.

In a second proclamation, Lynch honored the Hampton Beach Area Commission:

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Area Commission was established in June 2003, by the New Hampshire Legislature to assist in the implementation of the Hampton Beach Master Plan; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Area Commission is comprised of representatives of all major stakeholders in the Hampton Beach area, including the Town of Hampton, the Hampton Beach Village District, Rockingham Planning Commission, the Department of Resources and Economic Development, the Department of Transportation and the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Area Commission has secured $14.5 million for the redevelopment of Hampton Beach State Park, has been awarded a grant to update transportation, completed a parking study to better understand private and public parking and is collaborating with commercial developers for new redesign projects to maintain a common architectural look for all businesses along Ocean Boulevard; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Area Commission was selected to host a two-day festival celebrating the completion of the redevelopment of the Hampton Beach State Park Project and to kick off the New Hampton Beach Era; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Area Commission raised over $60,000 in corporate and private donations in preparation for the gala, all of which was used to cover the cost of the gala and start a New Hampton Beach Era fund that will support continuous improvements along Hampton Beach; and

WHEREAS, The Hampton Beach Area Commission has become known as the organization that brings both public and private partners together as one team for the betterment of Hampton Beach;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN H. LYNCH, GOVERNOR of the State of New Hampshire, and the Executive Council, do hereby commend the members of the HAMPTON BEACH AREA COMMISSION for their dedication and commitment to their community and state and wish them all the best in the future
