Hampton Men Arraigned for Portsmouth Burglary

Police said two Hampton men were caught Sunday breaking into a Portsmouth business.

Two men were arraigned in Portsmouth District Court this morning after they were arrested by Portsmouth Police Sunday afternoon for trying to burglarize a Lafayette Road business.

Nicholas Zucconi, 29, of 836 Lafayette Road, Apt. 4, and Shawn Goodwin, 23, of 21 Walnut Ave., both of Hampton are facing burglary charges after they were spotted using tools to gain entry into an unspecified business, according to court documents.

According to an affidavit filed by Portsmouth Police Officer Andre Wassouf, a witness saw two male subjects using a crowbar to gain entry into a business. When police spotted Zucconi, he was carrying a buffer and walking down Lafayette Road.

Zucconi told police he worked at the business and went there to get some tools. He also produced two keys that he said would open the doors to the shop. Zucconi also denied having a crowbar or using one to try and gain entry into the business.

When contacted by police, the shop owner said Zucconi no longer worked there and should not have had any keys to the business. The shop owner also said Zucconi's last paycheck was given to Zucconi's father. When police searched the truck of Zucconi's car, they found a crowbar under a pile of clothes, according to court documents.

Following their video arraignment from the Rockingham County Jail in Brentwood, Portsmouth District Court Judge Sawato Gardner ordered Zucconi, who was charged with burglary and receiving stolen property, held on $10,000 cash bail. She ordered Goodwin, who is charged with attempted burglary, held on $3,500 cash bail, according to court documents.

The two men are due back in Portsmouth District Court for a probable cause hearing on Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.
