Pet Portrait for Protection Day Fundraiser Held June 13

Hampton Veterinary Hospital, Chura's Photography, and Vested Interest in K9s help get ballistic vest for Portsmouth Police K-9 Officer Max.

The Hampton Veterinary Hospital at 871 Lafayette Road in Hampton is hosting an Open House and Pet Portrait fund raiser on June 13, 1pm-4pm to benefit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The veterinary practice is partnering with Chura’s Photography of Hampton Falls and Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. to provide a ballistic vest for K9 Max of the Portsmouth Police Department

Chura’s Photography will be offering pet portraits for a $10 fee from 1pm-4pm. No appointment is needed. All proceeds from the photos are being donated towards a vest for the Portsmouth Police K9, Max. Dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier.

Additional attractions include; 2pm K9 demonstration provided by Officer Kelly and his K9 partner Niko with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, pet related raffle baskets and light refreshments, guided facility tour. Fun activities for kids from 2:30-4pm, Mr. & Mrs. Dee, “The Balloon Twisters” and face painting.

The goal is to raise $950 to outfit K9 Max with a bullet and stab protective vest. K9 Max is a 2 year old German Shepherd partnered with Officer Steven Blanding of the Portsmouth Police Department in New Hampshire. The team was appointed to the K9 Unit in August of 2014 and they are certified in Patrol and Narcotics Detection.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States. The nonprofit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four legged K9 Officers. Through private and corporate sponsorships, Vested Interest in K9’s, Inc. has provided over 1430 law enforcement dogs in 49 states with protective vests since their inception in August of 2009 at a cost of 1.3 million dollars.
