Mass. Man Jackknifes Tractor-Trailer Full of Bananas: NHSP
NHSP: Slippery, snow-covered I-95 and unreasonable speed blamed for crash of truck fully loaded with thousands of pounds of bananas.
HAMPTON, NH — A Bay State truck driver was sent to the hospital this morning after he reportedly was speeding on I-95 in Hampton and dumped his tractor-trailer truck full of bananas, according to New Hampshire State Police. A 34-year-old man from Chelsea, MA, was driving north at around 5:30 a.m. on April 1, 2017, when he reportedly lost control of the truck “due to unreasonable speed combined with the snow-covered roadway,” according to Sgt. John Hennessey of Troop A.
“The trailer of Unit #1 began to rotate clockwise, pulling both the trailer and tractor portion over onto its side,” Hennessey alleged. “(The driver) was transported by Hampton Fire and Rescue to the Exeter Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.”
All three lanes of I-95 North were closed for around three hours during the investigation and cleanup of the highway.
