Mass. Woman Arrested for Drunk Driving with a Child in Her Vehicle

Hampton Police: Heather Kent was allegedly driving on Lafayette Road at twice the legal limit. A passenger was also arrested.

HAMPTON, NH — Two people were arrested on Tuesday on charges after a motor vehicle complaint turned into an alleged drunk driving investigation on Lafayette Road, according to police. Heather Kent, 29, of Amesbury, MA, was arrested on Sept. 20, 2016, and charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence and open container. Also arrested was Jason Nelson, 41, of Seabrook, for false report to law enforcement.

According to police, officer received a complaint about erratic driving in the area of Lafayette Road near Route 101.

“An officer working a construction detail heard the report over his radio and observed the suspected vehicle traveling north on Lafayette Road,” according to Sgt. Alex Reno of the Hampton Police Department. “After observing motor vehicle violations, the officer pulled the vehicle over.”

An investigation by the officer alleged that Kent was intoxicated on alcohol and also transporting a child – 4-years-old – in the vehicle, according to police. She was then arrested.

Police allegedly found an open container in the vehicle so that charge was added. Later, Kent reportedly submitted to a breathalyzer test and allegedly blew a 0.16, so another aggravated charge was added.

Officers also spoke to a passenger who allegedly gave a false name. The man – Nelson – was arrested and charged.

Kent was released on $750 cash bail and will be arraigned next week. Nelson is due in court on Nov. 1.

Neither Kent nor Nelson are strangers to police, according to reports online.

Back in November 2015, according to the Newburyport News, Kent was arrested in Seabrook on shoplifting an possession charges. Nelson, according to Seacoastonline.com, was arrested for shoplifting in February 2012 in Seabrook. In May 2015, he was arrested in Salisbury, MA, on a warrant and for disguise to obstruct justice, according to the Newburyport News. Nelson was arrested in Salisbury, MA, in August 2015, on warrants, according to the Newburyport News.
