Massachusetts Man Accused Of DUI After Crash In Hampton

HAMPTON, NH — A man from Massachusetts is facing drunken driving charges after being accused of driving into a restaurant on Lafayette Road in Hampton on Saturday.

Around 9:15 p.m., police and fire and rescue teams were sent to Greg’s Bistro for a report of a pickup truck crashing into the building. First responders found that the vehicle crashed into the business's front door, Lt. Anthony Azarian, the department’s administrative services commander, said.

“Hampton Fire assisted with several injured people that were inside of the business at the time of the crash,” he said.

The driver, Stephen Davis, 24, of Newburyport, MA, was arrested on a felony driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and reckless conduct charges. A passenger was also in the vehicle, Azarian said.

Davis was booked, processed, and released on personal recognizance. He will be arraigned in Rockingham County Superior Court on Dec. 22.

“The Hampton Fire Department determined that the building was structurally unsafe, and arrangements were made for residents from second-floor apartments who were evacuated,” he said. “The American Red Cross New England Region was contacted to assist with the displacement of the residents.”
