NHSP: Maine Man Charged After Hit-and-Run

Mark Boisvert allegedly fled the scene after crashing into an SUV in Seabrook; police catch up to him in Salisbury, MA.

According to the New Hampshire State Police, on Tuesday, April 14, at around 11:30 a.m., troopers responded to a report of motor vehicle accident on I-95 southbound in Seabrook, according to a press release.

The investigation revealed that a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, being driven by a Derry man, was traveling south when a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, being driven by Mark Boisvert, 34, of Wells, ME, allegedly struck the rear of the Santa Fe “at a high rate of speed.” This resulted in Santa Fe losing control, spinning, and striking the left side of the roadway, stopping in the high speed breakdown lane.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage to both the front and rear, according to police.

Boisvert reportedly stopped his vehicle in the right breakdown lane when a witness pulled over behind his vehicle. This witness then observed Boisvert allegedly leave the scene and continue traveling south.

“The witness followed the vehicle as it took Exit 60 and then stopped at a Mobil gas station in Salisbury, MA,” according to Sgt. Keith J. Walker. “ The witness called this information in to the New Hampshire State Police. A detailed vehicle description was provided. Massachusetts law enforcement agencies were notified and responded to the area. However, Boisvert left the area.”

A short time later, troopers were notified that Boisvert was reportedly at a local auto body repair shop in Salisbury, MA. It was determined that Boisvert’s vehicle began to overheat due to a loss of engine coolant and extensive front end damage, according to troopers. At the point when his vehicle started to become disabled, he stopped at the auto body repair shop and notified the police of his location.

The Salisbury, MA Police Department and NH Troopers responded to Boisvert’s location. Boisvert’s vehicle was observed in the front parking lot with extensive front end damage and leaking engine coolant.

“Boisvert provided a verbal and written explanation of the circumstances surrounding the collision and his decision to leave the area,“ according to Walker. “ However, his account was not consistent with independent witness statements and evidence at the scene. Troopers were also able to locate the front license plate of Boisvert’s vehicle at the scene as it dislodged in the collision.”

Several witnesses to this collision informed troopers at the scene that “Boisvert was traveling erratically and at a very high rate of speed just prior to this collision.”

The Derry man was transported to the Exeter Hospital with non-life threatening upper body and head injuries. Boisvert was not injured in this collision.

The high speed lane of I-95 was closed for approximately 45 minutes as troopers investigated this collision. The New Hampshire State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Seabrook Fire Department, the Salisbury, MA, Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

Boisvert will be charged with multiple violations upon completion of this investigation.

This accident remains under investigation by TFC Michael Shupe and Trooper Alex Davis. Anyone with information pertaining to this accident is asked to call either TFC Shupe or Trooper Davis/NH State Police/Troop A at 603-223-8490.
