Pearls Hamburgers Won't Open Until 2013

The Airstream burger restaurant had been hoping to open in May or June 2012.

, an upscale hamburger restaurant contained within a 1963 Airstream trailer, won't be coming to downtown Hampton this summer as originally hoped.

An announcement on the official Pearls Hamburgers website indicates the restaurant, which in March overcame and to permanently install the converted Airstream on a vacant lot at the corner of Swains Court and Lafayette Road, is "Opening up in the Summer of 2013!"

Co-owners Heide Conlin and Jen Blankenship have previously told Hampton-North Hampton Patch they planned to open by the end of June 2012, and it's unclear why the opening has been delayed.

Conlin and Blankenship both couldn't be reached for comment.

Concerns were initially raised about the appearance of the proposed eatery because it has a "food truck" service style, although to allow the business because the approach to the food, outdoor seating area and business itself is more akin to a permanent establishment that .

"We're hoping to at least market to the people who want that fast food fix but don’t want the junk — the ones who want the good stuff," Blankenship has told Patch. "It’s personal — it's not McDonald's.

"We want it to be a way to bring the community together. We’re all people at the end of the day. We have to support each other. It's not just about making a profit, but rather about trying to create a face for the business that's friendly. It’s more nuanced and layered. It’s what we really want try get across to our community."
