Police to Unveil New Emergency, Disaster App Tuesday

The public safety system was funded through a gift by the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.

The and the will hold a special press conference Tuesday at Hampton Beach to announce the release of a new smartphone application to help local residents stay informed about crime, safety alerts, traffic problems and other important information.

Police Chief Jamie Sullivan and Casino Ballroom General Manager Fred Schaake will announce at 1 p.m. at the the deployment of the Hyperlocal Citizens Alerts app, which will give residents and tourists breaking information about crimes in progress, dangerous storms, missing persons, traffic situations, terrorist attacks, natural disasters and other emergencies in the area.

The Hyperlocal Citizens Alerts app was designed by Ping4 Inc., a Nashua-based startup company run by former congressional candidate Jim Bender.

The app was funded through a gift from the Casino Ballroom to the police department. The Casino Ballroom will also use the system to broadcast information about shows, events and promotions at the historic Hampton Beach performing arts venue as well as release information about events and promotions at other retailers along Ocean Boulevard.     

Residents will be able to download the free app on their Apple or Android smartphones and iPads once it is deployed Tuesday.
