Quincy Man Dies, Boston Men Injured After I-95 Crash In Hampton
NHSP: Three were injured, one fatally, after a van crashed into a Jersey barrier on the north side of the Hampton toll plaza last night.
HAMPTON, NH — Four men were injured – one fatally – after a van crashed into a Jersey barrier on I-95 in Hampton last night, according to New Hampshire State Police. Yong Zheng, 54, of Quincy, MA, a passenger in the van, was ejected through the front windshield after the driver of the vehicle crashed into the southbound highway barrier at just before 6 p.m. on Jan. 9, 2018. The initial on-scene investigation revealed that the drive, a Boston man in his early 50s, “lost control of the vehicle and struck the crash attenuator barrier just north of the toll plaza,” according to Sgt. Steven Wheeler of the NHSP.
“There were also three other passengers in the vehicle, one of which was ejected out the front windshield,” he noted. “The operator and one of the passengers were transported to Exeter Hospital in Exeter with serious injuries. The two rear passengers were transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, one with serious injuries and one with life threatening injuries.”
Wheeler stated that it appeared as if the van “either changed lanes and lost control or was trying to make it into the cash lanes from the open road tolling lanes.” The two other passengers were also Boston residents.

Parts of I-95 were closed for about three hours, with traffic re-routed, during the investigation by the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit. NHSP were assisted by the North Hampton Fire Department and NH DOT.
Impairment, Wheeler noted, was ruled out last night. He added in a press statement this morning, “It does not appear that any of the occupants in the vehicle were wearing seat belts.”
