Zaino: Grosky has Good Judgment and a Sense of Justice

Letter writer says he's seen the impact of great - and poor - leadership and questions choices made in Rockingham County Attorney's Office.

ATKINSON, NH — As a resident of Rockingham County and a prosecutor that has worked for the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office, I have concerns over the lack of integrity and leadership in that office. I don’t expect my county attorney or pubic officials to be perfect, no person can claim that, but I do expect the top law enforcement officer in the county (our county attorney) to be above reproach. Poor judgment has led to bad choices that have cost county taxpayers thousands of dollars and resulted in the departure of many seasoned prosecutors.

I’m voting for prosecutor Jason Grosky to be our next County Attorney because I have seen him demonstrate good judgment and a sense of justice in his handling of criminal cases. While being mindful of protecting the community from physical danger, he even protects the taxpayers from wasteful spending when defendants lie about their income to qualify for a “free” attorney. I am confident Jason can and will restore the public trust in the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office. As a veteran prosecutor and former candidate for County Attorney I know firsthand how important leadership is. I have served under five different County Attorneys and two United States’ Attorneys and seen the impact of both great leadership and a lack of leadership. I am greatly concerned by the choices made in the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office.

Jason is also passionately concerned about the same issues I have in our community, such as the opioid crisis and the increase in human trafficking crimes. He is a person willing to ask for help and take advice. He has demonstrated this in outlining his plan to combat the opioid crisis by meeting with community leaders, police officers, prosecutors, and citizens that have been impacted by this epidemic such as addicts and their families. As a result, he understands we must attack this issue from both sides, punish the dealers and rehabilitate the users. The current County Attorney has resolved cases in ways that demonstrates a lack of understanding of this principle and the results are felt by all of us.
