Scholarship Winner Eyes Brighter 'Future'

The recipient of the first-ever Crimeline scholarship says she is "fortunate" for the honor, which she said has a "personal value."

Crimeline for the Hamptons, Inc. Board of Directors recently met with Kimberly Newcomb, the . The scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded this year in memory of the late , who was on April 12.

Crimeline is a non-profit organization that assists local police departments in solving crime by offering money for tips that lead to arrests or indictments. The organization also now funds a scholarship that will be awarded annually to one local high school student who wishes to pursue a career in law enforcement or criminal justice, and to children of police officers from the , , Hampton Falls, or Seabrook police departments.   

While a Senior at last Spring, Newcomb composed an essay that was judged to be the best by Crimeline’s Board of Directors.

In a letter thanking Crimeline for the scholarship, Newcomb said, “I am very honored to have received it because of the personal value it holds for my family and I.  Not only have you contributed to my education, but to my entire future.”

“I am looking forward to mid-August when I leave for Salisbury University.  I am so fortunate for having this college opportunity and I thank you for helping contribute to my education,” Newcomb added.

Since its inception in 1994, Crimeline’s funds are used to give rewards for anonymous tips that lead to arrests and indictments for crimes in North Hampton, Hampton, Hampton Falls, and Seabrook. Knowledge provided about any crime, anywhere, if presented to Crimeline for the Hamptons, Inc., may be eligible for a reward.

In addition, Crimeline for the Hamptons, Inc., can purchase items that local police departments have need for, but that are not funded in their budgets.

Tips can be left anonymously at 929-1222, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  However, callers are asked to create an identifying code by which they will be notified if a reward is available.
