Warriors Take Control in Playoff Opener
A key change and big plays off the bench helped Winnacunnet overcome a slow start and knock off Dover Wednesday night.

The game started off at a pace that was troublesome for us. Dover did a great job stalling out their offense and scoring only when they were completely sure of making the shot. With a very low scoring first quarter and heading into the second with the same offense, we needed to persuade them to change their pace. With about 4 minutes to go in the 2nd I subbed in season long swing player Katie Valcich knowing that she would help with this change. Further, with a quick time out, we changed up our defense to place traps on Dover’s extended offense. With these 2 changes, the pace rapidly changed and we didn’t look back from there. We rely on our pressure to generate the pace we strive at, and with the very low scoring first half, we were unable to establish or preferred rhythm. End the first half with a build a momentum was all we needed to come out strong to finish the rest of the match up.

And although only scoring 2 points for the number of minutes she played, Katie Valcich was an essential pace changer and leader for us on the floor. She generated turn overs for Dover, had 4 rebounds, 5 steals. In total, the team had 29 steals.
The team advances to play Manchester Memorial at home at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. If the Warriors win Saturday, they advance to the final four.
