Winnacunnet Falls to Londonderry in Season Opener
The Lancers edged out a win Friday over the Warriors in a rematch of last year's playoff upset.

In a repeat of last year's Division 1 semifinal game, the Winnacunnet High School Warriors girls' basketball team couldn't solve the Londonderry Lancers, falling 48-40 in Friday's home and season opener, according to WHS' MaxPreps.com page.
The Lancers (1-0-0) prevented new Warriors (0-1-0) head coach Cassie Turcotte from getting her first win by nearly the same margin of defeat as last year's playoff game, which went 51-42 in Londonderry's favor and ended WHS' hopes of winning an unprecedented sixth straight state championship.
Turcotte was hired as head coach after Ed Beattie — who during 31 seasons as head coach led the Warriors to a 519-173 record, including a 119-3 mark in the past six seasons, and five straight state titles from 2007 to 2011 — formally resigned in October due to "limited" support from administrators as well as a difficulty juggling his other jobs,

The Warriors will square off Tuesday against the Keene Blackbirds (0-1-0), which lost its season opener 43-37 to Exeter, while the Lancers play Bedford (1-0-0) on Tuesday, according to the WHS MaxPreps.com page.
