Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire released the following statement on S.AMDT.715, the Manchin-Toomey Amendment to S649 (the gun legislation which Majority Leader Harry Reid introduced last week). The Manchin-Twoomey Amendment failed to meet the 60 vote threshold with a vote of 54 -46. New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte voted against it, while Sen. Jeanne Shaheen voted for it.
Derek Dufresne, Spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, released the following statement:
“Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire applauds Senator Kelly Ayotte for standing up for the rights of law abiding gun owners today by voting against the Manchin-Toomey amendment. Granite Staters thank her for recognizing the need to address our country’s mental healthcare system, while also understanding that the expansion of background checks to private sales does not properly address this concern.

“While we thank Senator Ayotte for voting against the proposed amendment, we are disappointed in Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s vote in favor of an amendment that would seek to increase the reach of the federal government and limit the rights of law abiding Granite Staters as protected by our Constitution.”
Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire encourages Granite Staters to call Sen. Kelly Ayotte and thank her for voting against the amendment at 202-224-3324. We also encourage them to contact Sen. Jeanne Shaheen at 202-224-2841 and tell her to stop supporting legislation that would limit the rights on law abiding Granite Staters.
