Carson Easily Wins GOP Nomination

State Senator from Londonderry bests Ludwig Haken; GOP voters give two newcomers ballot access for the Statehouse.

LONDONDERRY, NH — State Sen. Sharon Carson, R-Londonderry, easily won re-election to the Republican nomination on Sept. 13, 2016, besting Ludwig Haken, her challenger, by a more than two-to-one margin, according to unofficial results. Carson received 3,130 votes compared to Haken’s 1,203 votes.

Carson beat Haken in all three of the district’s communities – Auburn, Hudson, and Londonderry – by solid margins.

In the state Representative race, 10 candidates competed for seven Republican nomination seats and voters elected five incumbents and two newcomers to seats.

David Lundgren, an incumbent, topped the ticket with 1,555 votes. Al Baldasaro came in second with 1,364 votes. Sherman Packard received 1,346 votes. Marty Bove, a non-incumbent, received 1,294 votes while incumbent Douglas Thomas received 1,106 votes. A second newcomer – B. Rimol – also gained ballot access with 956 votes.

In the gubernatorial races, Democrat Colin Van Ostern easily won the town with 441 votes with Mark Connolly receiving 256 votes. Steve Marchand received 159 votes. Ian Freeman received 12 votes and

Derek Dextrase received 6 votes.

On the Republican side, Chris Sununu won the town with 674 votes compared with Frank Edelblut's 649 votes. Ted Gatsas received 504 votes and Jeanie Forrester received 480 votes. Jonathan Lavoie received 32 votes.
