Londonderry Resident takes 1st in World Championship
Ed Tapia takes 1st in NoGi & 3rd in Gi At The Good Fight Submission only Jiu Jitsu World Championships in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania
The Good Fight Submission only Jiu Jitsu World Championships was held December 9, 2017 at Elizabethtown College (Thompson Gym), 1 Alpha Dr. Elizabethtown, PA 17022. The Good Fight is a submission only Brazilian jiu jitsu tournament. There are no points or advantage points calculated for any positions or moves. There are no referee decisions. Athletes have a 15 minute time limit to win the match and advance in the bracket. If a submission is executed within those 15 minutes than the overtime rules will apply in order to determine a winner of the match. Overtimes are setup in 4 positions, mount, back take, arm bar and triangle. The objective is for the competitor in the dominant position to apply a submission before the opposing competitor escapes. Each competitor takes turns in each positions until one of them is submitted. http://www.goodfighttournament.com/general_rules.html
Ed Tapia, Londonderry resident, was defeated in the Gi by Bradley Bruce and Daniel Alvalle. Bruce won with a Peruvian collar choke and Alvalle won by Americana. Bradley Bruce took first place, Daniel Alvalle took 2nd, and Tapia was 3rd. Ed was flooded with doubt. He had driven over 7 hours to get there and was a new blue belt competing against 2 strip blue belts.
Ed Tapia rallied to take 1st in the NoGi, Middleweight, Blue Belt, Masters division. Both NoGi matches went the full 15 minute rounds and each also went into double overtime. Tapia submitted Bradley Bruce by rear naked choke in the back take portion of the over time, in a match that was over 26 minutes long. Tapia went on to submit Daniel Alvalle from the triangle portion of the overtime, Alvalle began to stand up, to escape, Ed then reacted by transitioning to an arm bar for the finish.
