Do you know how to respond when a military family member, veteran or service member asks for your help? Mental health is key to overall health, but many veterans, service members and their families suffer in silence, reluctant to seek help because of the stigma associated with the invisible wounds of war. This military focused Mental Health First Aid training includes discussion of specific risk factors faced by many veterans, service members and their families such as trauma, stress, and separation issues.
Like traditional First Aid and CPR, Mental Health First Aid is help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis, until professional treatment is obtained or the crisis resolves. Participants learn a 5 step action plan that helps them to assess a situation, determine the best steps to take, and access care for an individual experiencing a mental health problem. Those completing the one day training will be certified as a mental health first aider and receive a certificate.
