NH AG: Distraught Man with Shotgun Fired at Derry Officer First

Investigators update information about officer-involved shooting that killed a man on Scobie Pond Road near Londonderry.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and the state police have issued an update in the officer-involved shooting case in Derry, at around 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 21.

According to investigators, at just after 8 a.m., a 911 call came in to Derry Police with a woman stating that her distraught husband had just driven away from their home on Pinyon Lane, armed with a shotgun and threatening to take his own life.

Police responded to the area and found the husband’s truck on Julian Road, right near the Londonderry line.

“As the officer’s cruiser approached the truck, the officer began taking gunfire from the rear of the truck,” according to a statement by Benjamin Agati, an assistant attorney general. “The officer returned fire. The man suffered a single gunshot wound and was transported to Parkland Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.”

The police officer did not sustain any significant injury, the alert stated.

The investigation is still active and the identification of the man is not being released at this time.

Anyone who was in the area of Julian Road and Scobie Pond Road at the time of the shooting is asked to contact Sergeant Brian Strong at the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit at 603-223-4381.
