NH Trump Delegate on Hillary: She Should be ‘Shot for Treason’

UPDATED: Londonderry state Rep. Al Baldasaro's comments on a Boston radio station from the GOP convention creates a firestorm.

LONDONDERRY, NH — A Republican state representative and major Donald Trump supporter, known for colorful commentary and advocacy for Second Amendment rights, has, once again, put himself in the national spotlight due to inappropriate comments made about presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, according to BuzzFeed.com.

During an interview on “The Jeff Kuhner Show” on WRKO 680 AM out of Boston, Massachusetts, when the host asked State Rep. Al Baldasaro, R-Londonderry, if Clinton was responsible for the deaths in Benghazi, he called Clinton his generation’s Jane Fonda and said she should be “put in a firing line and shot for treason.”

Baldasaro said that as a veteran of two foreign actions – Desert Shield and Desert Storm – and a father who had also sent a son to war – Clinton’s actions as secretary of state were a disgrace.

“Hillary Clinton to me is the Jane Fonda of the Vietnam,” he said. “She is a disgrace for the lies that she told those mothers about their children that got killed over there in Benghazi. She dropped the ball on over 400 emails requesting backup security. Something’s wrong there.”

Kuhner offered no follow-up to the comment and moved onto a question about “Hillary for Prison 2016” T-shirts he saw at the convention. Baldasaro said he agreed with the T-shirts' sentiment, and Clinton should be held to the same standards as others in government and the military who are losing their jobs due to minor violations compared to what she had committed. He also called her a “piece of garbage.”

Ray Buckley, the chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, issued a statement on July 20, 2016, calling Baldasaro an embarrassment to the state. He called for a repudiation of his remarks by party officials and his resignation.

"Al Baldasaro's comments that Secretary Clinton should be 'put in the firing line and shot' are disgusting, offensive and frighteningly commonplace in the party of Trump," Buckley said. "By repeatedly praising someone like Al Baldasaro in the past, Donald Trump has lifted up the worst of the New Hampshire Republican Party and shown exactly what kind of company he intends to keep as President.”

Former U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-NH, also issued a statement calling on her Republican rivals for the 1st Congressional District seat to denounce Baldasaro’s comments.

"Frank Guinta and Rich Ashooh need to denounce Trump lieutenant Al Baldasaro's horrific comment that Secretary Clinton should be 'put in the firing line and shot for treason,'" she said. "They both need to denounce these remarks without delay. These comments show the negative impact Donald Trump has had on so many in the Republican Party, who now feel free to spew hatred and malice without consequence. Guinta and Ashooh have a test here — will they choose moral leadership or abandon our values and look away once again."

Baldasaro, who toyed with a Senate run in 2014, has been a pit bull for Trump on the stump – attending and speaking at rallies – while also corralling veterans and others to the campaign. In the past, he has also crossed over the aisle to work with Democrats at the Statehouse, including tougher measures against criminals that use firearms and the state’s Canine Veterans Day Act.
