MANCHESTER, NH — Police arrested a Manchester man Thursday after a morning shooting that injured two Department of Public Works employees near Manchester and Union streets.
Police said the shooting happened at about 9:20 a.m. as the two workers were walking in the area when they were approached by a man known to one of them.
Police identified the man as Sean Day, 32.
Day was accused of producing a handgun and firing a single shot, striking both men. The two men suffered non-life-threatening injuries and have been treated and released from the hospital.
As the investigation continued, officers found Day at a business in Manchester and took him into custody without incident on two felony counts of first-degree assault.

Manchester Chief Peter Marr called the shooting “a shocking and brazen act of violence” that was completely unacceptable
“I am proud of the swift work of our officers and detectives in identifying the suspect and taking him into custody so quickly following this morning’s shooting,” he said. “Our thoughts remain with the city employees who were injured, their families, and the departments affected by this incident. We wish them a speedy recovery.”
Mayor Jay Ruais thanked police and city workers and said he had spoken with the victims.
“I want to thank the Manchester Police Department for their swift response, professionalism, and work to quickly apprehend the suspect,” he said. “I also want to thank our Department of Public Works employees and all our city staff for the work they do every day to serve our community. I have spoken with both victims and am grateful that they are recovering. My prayers remain with all affected by this senseless crime. This was a despicable act and I hope justice is served quickly.”
Police have not released further details about what led to the shooting. The shooting, Heather Hamel, a public information officer for the department, said, does not appear to have been random and there is believed to be no threat to the public.
