Alleged Merrimack Strangler Arrested in Nashua

Joseph Brodie faces domestic violence charges after allegedly assaulting a woman; was previously arrested for armed robbery in Mass.

NASHUA, NH — A local man was arrested on Thursday morning and held on cash bail after allegedly strangling and assaulting a woman, according to Nashua Police. Joseph Brodie, 47, of Century Way in Merrimack, was arrested at 8:27 a.m. on July 21, 2016, and charged with second-degree assault and second-degree assault-domestic violence, both felonies, as well as domestic violence and simple assault.

Police were sent to Nashua home for a report of a domestic assault at the residence.

“An adult female, known to Brodie, reported Brodie pushed her and strangled her,” according to Lt. Kerry Baxter of the Nashua Police Department. “Detectives from the Special Investigations Division were notified and furthered the investigation.”

Brodie was then arrested and charged. He was held on $7,500 cash bail and was scheduled to be arraigned the next day.

According to Baxter, Brodie faces two to 14 years on the felony charges and another two years in prison on the assault charges.

According to reports on Nashua Patch, Brodie is no stranger to police. He was arrested in February 2013 for simple assault-domestic violence and resisting arrest or detention charges. In September 2012, he was arrested in Massachusetts on armed robbery with a firearm, armed assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and operating after suspension, after an armed robbery in Lawrence, MA.
