📰 News we're reading

• Exclusive: Records show cities rack up legal fees over ICE detention centers (san.com) — Merrimack spent about $8,000 on outside legal counsel to prepare for a possible federal immigration detention center, amid what town officials describe as poor communication from DHS. Although the project was later dropped by the governor’s announcement, Merrimack will not be reimbursed, unlike one Kansas city that recovered over $1 million in fees. The investigation compares how several communities shoulder similar legal costs.

• Route 101 Rollover In Stratham Sends Fremont Driver To Hospital: New Hampshire State Police Roundup (patch.com) — Several recent New Hampshire State Police cases involve incidents in Merrimack, including traffic and DUI-related arrests noted in the Troop B blotter. The roundup centers on a Route 101 dump truck rollover in Stratham but also lists detailed charges from Merrimack, Concord, and other towns that may affect local court dockets and traffic enforcement awareness.

• As Legislators Mull Sale of Sununu Youth Center, New Round of Abuse Allegations (indepthnh.org) — State Rep. Maureen Mooney of Merrimack is helping shape how proceeds from a potential sale of the Sununu Youth Services Center will be used, as lawmakers debate whether the money should support abuse victims or go to the state’s general fund. At the same time, new allegations from watchdog groups claim ongoing improper restraints and neglect at the Manchester youth facility, prompting an Attorney General investigation and renewed scrutiny of plans for a replacement center.
