Today's riddle: Knock-knock! Who’s there? Irish. Irish who? 🤔 (Answer below!)
Weather forecast:
1. AG report finds state official failed to communicate ICE Merrimack plan (nhpr.org) — State investigators say a New Hampshire official mishandled communications about a proposed federal immigration detention center in Merrimack, leaving top state leaders and local officials in the dark amid heavy public concern. The report faults communication lapses but finds no intentional misconduct, and recommends new training and centralized handling of public-records requests across state agencies.
2. Hiring Veterans: Jobs of the week for May 4, 2026 (va.gov) — Veterans in Merrimack have a new Pro Customer Service/Sales opening at The Home Depot, alongside similar roles in Hooksett and Claremont. This weekly VA roundup also highlights dozens of veteran-friendly jobs nationwide, plus upcoming franchise programs and military resource fairs scheduled through summer 2026.
3. Fidelity Ends Hybrid Work for 21,000 Employees (allwork.space) — Fidelity is ending its hybrid policy and will require many Merrimack-based employees to work in the office five days a week starting in September, aligning with similar changes in Boston and other cities. The company says in-person work will support mentorship and collaboration as it opens a major new Boston campus and keeps its existing headquarters fully in use.
4. High School Roundup: Ballard, Cushman lead Windham softball team (unionleader.com) — Merrimack High athletes were in the thick of Monday’s action, with the baseball team dropping a tight 2-0 duel to Exeter despite a strong pitching performance, and boys lacrosse edging Chelmsford, Mass., 5-4 on a last-second goal. The roundup also highlights nearby rivals like Bedford, Windham, and Nashua in softball, baseball, and lacrosse.
5. House working group changes bill to ban some kratom products (unionleader.com) — Two Merrimack state representatives, Rosemarie Rung and Nancy Murphy, are central to a debate over how New Hampshire should regulate high-dose and synthetic kratom products. A House working group has instead backed Salem Rep. Joe Sweeney’s narrower rewrite, which targets chemically altered, high-concentration kratom and is expected to reach the full House for a final vote later this month.
