Today's riddle: Why are frogs poor conversationists? 🤔 (Answer below!)
Weather forecast:
1. Police locate, arrest Merrimack man in connection with hit-and-run crash in Nashua (unionleader.com) — Merrimack police recently helped search for a suspect wanted in a serious Nashua hit-and-run, after he allegedly fled from officers near the local Home Depot. The man was ultimately arrested in Manchester on multiple felony charges tied to the crash, and the injured pedestrian is expected to recover. Authorities from several agencies assisted in the multi-day search.
2. Mental health bill pushed by Ayotte gets late night save in Senate, after House rejects it (nhpr.org) — A Merrimack Republican lawmaker is backing a mental health funding bill that would expand access to intensive behavioral services for New Hampshire children, but the measure narrowly failed in the House this week. Gov. Kelly Ayotte is still pressing for a deal after the Senate revived the proposal as an amendment, setting up further negotiations that could reshape how private insurers share costs for kids’ care.
3. Lawmakers sought to reckon with sludge use on New Hampshire farms. Here's how the bill has evolved so far. (bostonglobe.com) — Merrimack residents and wastewater officials are closely tied to a shifting state bill on PFAS-contaminated sludge, which could change how the local treatment plant handles biosolids and liability. The legislation has dropped a proposed spreading moratorium, added liability protections, and sparked concern from advocates who say Merrimack already faces heavy contamination and cancer worries. Lawmakers are now working to fix a drafting error before moving forward.
4. City Hall: School board tables 'ugly' policy, you could be the big enchilada at Taco Tour (unionleader.com) — Merrimack is among the nearby districts now designated for open enrollment, a change that could shift where Manchester students enroll and how education dollars flow around the region. Manchester’s school board just tabled a controversial policy on limiting student movement, while downtown gears up for the huge Taco Tour on May 28, where one attendee will be named Grand Marshal.
