📰 News we're reading

1. Merrimack approves spending for wastewater treatment (unionleader.com) — Merrimack's Town Council has unanimously approved $250,000 to add a bulk sodium hydroxide storage system at the town's wastewater treatment plant, a change triggered by Anheuser-Busch's departure. The upgrade aims to keep effluent pH within permit limits, protect the already-impaired Merrimack River, and reduce staff exposure to hazardous chemicals while maintaining environmental compliance.

2. For $50, Merrimack High seniors can get a parking spot and make it an artwork (nhpr.org) — Merrimack High School seniors can now reserve and paint their own parking spots for $50, creating colorful, personalized spaces when school starts next week. Students spearheaded the idea as a fundraiser, won over district leaders, and turned Wednesday's painting day into a big community gathering, with staff helping cover costs for classmates who couldn't afford the fee.

3. Gasper's success with Red Sox inspires hometown Merrimack fans (wmur.com) — Merrimack residents are rallying around hometown slugger Mickey Gasper, whose hot streak with the Red Sox is energizing young players at Merrimack High and beyond. From his former coach to local card collectors, people who watched him grow up say his work ethic and success are motivating the next generation of town athletes.

4. Obituary of Gretchen Marie Mayall (fredcdames.com) — A former longtime Fidelity Investments employee in Merrimack, Gretchen Marie Mayall, has died at 60 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Though she later moved to Illinois, she spent 24 years working in Merrimack while pursuing extensive education, and is remembered for her devotion to family, love of learning, and deep commitment to community service.
