Anti-ICE Protest In Merrimack Attracts Hundreds Of Participants

Protesters gathered for two hours, holding signs, speaking over bullhorns, and cheering as vehicles honked their horns on Baboosic Road.

MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack Town Hall was the location chosen for a large “NO ICE” protest Saturday.

Hundreds of people showed up to protest ICE, and the detention facility planned to be built in Merrimack. The protesters gathered in the town hall parking lot, then quickly expanded and lined both sides of Baboosic Lake Road. Vehicles passing by honked their horns, mostly in support of the protest, though a few who did not agree shouted messages at the protesters.

At one point, a pickup stopped, and a man got out, yelling at the protesters. Another driver, in a small plow truck, appeared to swerve towards the crowd.

A man who was standing quietly with a pro-ICE sign was attacked by a man who ran across the street and pushed him to the ground. Members of the “peacekeepers” quickly intervened, and the man who had pushed the protester ran off.

Merrimack police were driving around the protest area but did not directly engage with the protesters.

The protest remained peaceful, aside from the events described above. We spoke to people who drove from as far away as Connecticut to attend the protest.

The protest lasted for a little more than two hours.
