Bradley Commends Heroin Recommendations

The full task force will review concepts to tackle New Hampshire's opioid epidemic on Tuesday.

CONCORD, NH - On Thursday, the remaining division of the Task Force on the response to the heroin and opioid epidemic finalized recommendations to be made to the full task force when they meet on Tuesday.

State Sen. Jeb Bradley, R-Wolfeboro, task force chairman, issued a statement following the division’s recommendations in a press statement.

“We’ve made significant progress this week and recommended a number of pieces of legislation which will aid in combating the opioid crisis,” he said. “Today’s work forms the basis of the preliminary report for the entire Task Force’s approval. I am proud of the task force’s dedication to finding workable solutions and am thankful for all of the advocates, agencies, physicians, and other stakeholders who helped to ensure we made progress on key issues related to the stemming the opioid crisis.”

Bradley added, “In particular, there was a recommendation made to the full task force to expedite legislation requiring comprehensive use of the prescription drug monitoring program [PDMP] in New Hampshire. This legislation would require all prescribers to review patient histories who are receiving opioid prescriptions. By increasing the use of the PDMP, prescribers will have a clearer understanding of a patient’s opioid usage level and other opioid prescriptions their patient may be receiving which will help minimize overprescribing. Today’s PDMP recommendation serves to stem inappropriate opioid prescribing, and is just one aspect of curbing the heroin crisis which serves to compliment other recommendations made, including increased interdiction efforts, and treatment for victims of addiction. “
