Jay O'Halloran Memorial Golf Tourney A Success For Jimmy Fund

The annual tournament is held in memory of Jimmy Buffett-loving Merrimack resident who battled leukemia.

MERRIMACK, NH — Jimmy Fund Golf extends its sincerest thanks to the organizers and sponsors of the Jay O'Halloran Memorial Golf Tournament held on Sept. 21 at the Crotched Mountain Golf Club in Francestown. Special recognition and appreciation goes to Jennifer Salisbury of Merrimack, who organized the 14th annual event.

The Jay O'Halloran Memorial Golf Tournament is one of more than 160 Jimmy Fund Golf tournaments in 2019 that helped raise critical funds to support the lifesaving mission of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

According to the tournament's website: "Since 2006, Jay's friends and family have come together on the course to raise needed funds for research and support for those battling cancer in Jay's memory. Since the tournament's inception, well over $100k has been donated to The Jimmy Fund in his name."

O'Halloran was a vice president at Rapid Finishing Corp in Nashua, a family-owned and operated industrial paining and powder coating company, as well as an avid hockey player fan and player with an affinity for Jimmy Buffett. He was treated for leukemia at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute before he died from the disease at 40 years old.

"Our players are some of the most loyal, fun-loving and generous people I have had the pleasure of knowing," said Jennifer Salisbury, who helps organize the tournament each year with O'Halloran's brother, Keith. "Many of them knew Jay personally; either as childhood friends, teammates from hockey, or through his business dealings. No matter how they met him, they will all agree that Jay was a special person and is sorely missed. Many of our volunteers are nieces, nephews and sisters. Even his mother stops by to visit, often supervising the putting contest. We welcome new players each year and it's so nice to see Jay being remembered through them meeting his large family and sharing cherished stories about him."

To honor O'Halloran's passions in life, players are invited to wear Hawaiian shirts common among Jimmy Buffett fans, which Salisbury said has evolved into fun alternatives like collared "lumberjack" shirts. The 50/50 hole has also doubled as the "Happy Gilmore" hole where golfers use a hockey stick instead of a putter on the green.

Salisbury said 100 percent of proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The Jimmy Fund Golf Program presented by Mohegan Sun is the oldest and largest charity golf program in the country. Now in its 37th year, Jimmy Fund Golf has raised more than $128 million to support adult and pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber. From 18-hole golf tournaments to mini golf events and day-long golf marathons, golfers of all ages and skill levels can conquer cancer through Jimmy Fund Golf.
