Maine Woman Faces Theft Charge

Merrimack Police arrested Maureen Mejia after a shoplifting incident at Saks 5th Avenue involving sunglasses.

MERRIMACK, NH — Police arrested an out of state woman last month for allegedly stealing a pair of sunglasses, according to police. Maureen Mejia, 59, of Summer Street in Lewiston, ME, was arrested on Oct. 10, 2016, for theft by unauthorized taking.

Police, according to a report, were sent to the Premium Outlet Mall for a report of a shoplifting that was just apprehended. The officers reviewed surveillance video and allegedly saw the woman – Mejia – remove an electronic theft prevention device on a pair of sunglasses, valued at $79.99, concealed them in her pocket, and then exited the store, without making any attempt to pay for them, according to Sgt. Cassell of the Merrimack Police Department.

Mejia was arrested, processed, and released. She’s due in court on Nov. 17.
