Mass. Man Fourth Arrested In Alleged Mall Theft Scheme

Malik Malcolm of Milton, MA, was arrested as police continue to investigate unauthorized discounts at the Merrimack Premium Outlets Mall.

MERRIMACK, NH — A fourth person has been arrested as Merrimack Police continue to investigate alleged thefts at a Merrimack Premium Outlets Mall shop. Malik A. Malcolm, 20, of Decker Street in Milton, MA, was arrested on June 20, 2017, and charged with receiving stolen property. Police began an investigation into possible thefts at a shop at the mall on May 1, and learned that Frank Dempsey of Orlando, FL, had allegedly recruited friends to help him deprive the store of product and profits, according to Lt. Matthew Tarleton of the Merrimack Police Department.

“Dempsey would either sell items at an unauthorized discount, or not properly scan items at the register during transactions,” Tarleton alleged.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Malcolm allegedly “conspired with Dempsey to carry out thefts,” and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He surrendered to police yesterday.

Malcolm was processed and released on personal recognizance bail. He’s due in court on July 27.

Dempsey was arrested on May 2, on theft and criminal liability for the conduct of another charges. Shanny Cedeno, of Front Street in Nashua, and Taylor Apostol, of Colonial Drive in Londonderry, were also charged with receiving stolen property in mid-May, according to police.
