Merrimack Firefighters Tackle Dumpster, ATV Fires
Firefighters extinguish fire near propane tanks at an auto business on Daniel Webster Highway; warn about disposing cigarettes, ashes.
MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams had a busy day on Sunday tackling two separate fire calls in town, according to Fire Marshal John Manuele. In the first incident, at just after noon on Dec. 4, 2016, teams were sent to a full involved dumpster fire located behind an auto service building.
“Engine 1’s crew quickly stretched a line and began extinguishing the fire,” Manuele stated. “The fire was extinguished in less than two minutes and overhaul was started.”
Units were back in service after the Monro Muffler call on the Daniel Webster Highway at just before 1 p.m. The cause of the fire was determined to be due to the improper disposal of smoking materials, he noted.

A little less than six hours later, teams were sent to South Baboosic Lake Road for a report of an ATV on fire. The vehicle was parked near a camper trailer which was also beginning to burn. The teams extinguished the fires at just after 7 p.m. The ATV – a Yamaha Raptor – was destroyed and the camper had damage to its front left corner.
“The cause of this fire was determined to be the improper disposal of wood stove ashes,” Manuele said.
