Merrimack Man Arrested on Heroin Possession Warrant

Merrimack Police arrested a local man earlier this month on drug charges after a traffic stop, according to a report.

Matthew Russell, 23, of Canterbury Way in Merrimack, was arrested on June 5, 2015, on a heroin possession warrant and possession of marijuana.

According to a report, police came in contact with Russell after a motor vehicle stop at around 9:45 p.m.

After speaking with Russell, the officer found out he had an active warrant for heroin possession. He was taken into custody and police allegedly found him to be in possession of marijuana and that charge was added.

“The warrant stemmed from an investigation that started in January when police had contact with Russell and he was found to have drug paraphernalia in his possession,” Sgt. Ted Dillon of the Merrimack Police Department. “A spoon that was in his possession was found to have heroin on it. With that information, a warrant was issued for his arrest.”

Russell was later released on personal recognizance bail and was scheduled to be in court next week, according to the report.

In December 2011, according to a post on Merrimack Patch, Russell was arrested on operating after suspension, operating with a suspended license and possession of a controlled drug charges.
