Merrimack’s Sawdey Wins Chess Tournament

Robert Sawdey, a sophomore, took first place at the high school level in the 2017 NH Scholastic Individual Chess Tournament.

MERRIMACK, NH — A local high school student is one of the best chess players in New Hampshire, after winning all of his games at the 2017 NH Scholastic Individual Chess Tournament earlier this month. Robert Sawdey, a sophomore at Merrimack High School, took first place at the high school level after winning four games at the tournament, held on March 18, 2017, in Londonderry.

The tournament – hosted by Tournament in a Box – hosted students, kindergarten through 12th, from all around New Hampshire.

The win allows Sawdey to move onto the 2017 GM Denker Tournament of High School Champions in Norfolk, VA, this summer.
