MERRIMACK, NH— The American Red Cross of New Hampshire and Vermont recently installed more than 130 free smoke alarms in 60 Merrimack households in partnership with the Merrimack Fire Department. The installations were part of the "Sound the Alarm" home fire safety event on Aug. 24.

"We are grateful for everyone's support of the event, which helped make more than 60 households safer," said Maria Devlin, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross NH & VT. "Together with local partners, we will build on the event’s success to continue providing free, lifesaving resources for families in need."

The Red Cross said that during the Sound the Alarm event in Merrimack, Red Cross volunteers and members of Merrimack FD canvassed neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms in homes, replace batteries in existing alarms and help families create home fire escape plans.
