RI Man Bagged for Drugs, Resisting, Detection Device Remover

Merrimack Police arrest Alexander Cabrera of Providence on numerous charges after incident at the mall.

MERRIMACK, NH — A Rhode Island man was arrested on Saturday on numerous charges after allegedly assisting in stealing a watch at the Merrimack Premium Outlets mall, according to police. Alexander Joel Cabrera, 20, of Charles Street in Providence, RI, was arrested on Oct. 29, 2016, and charged with resisting detention, possession of marijuana, possession of a detection device remover, and falsifying evidence, a felony.

Police were sent to the mall at just after 6 p.m. for a report of a merchant stating that a watch had been shoplifted from a store, according to Sgt. Gregory Walters of the Merrimack Police Department. When the officers arrived, they located one of the suspects that was reportedly involved in the incident.

“The male later identified as Alexander Joel Cabrera attempt to conceal a detection device remover and then flee from a police officer but was apprehended,” according to Walters. “Cabrera was found to be in possession of marijuana. Upon being taken into custody, he was transported to Merrimack Police Headquarters for processing.”

Cabrera was released on both cash and personal recognizance bail. He’s due in court on Dec. 15.

Back in September 2014, according to Natick MA Patch, Cabrera was arrested at the Natick Mall for receiving stolen property more than $250 (four counts) and conspiracy.
