“The story that was relayed to me was that someone (later identified as Patterson) was observed stealing from a car in front of a Springfield, VT, business,” White said in a statement. “Civilians apprehended this alleged thief and held him until the police arrived. The perpetrator refused to identify himself and was eventually identified by the Springfield Police Department as Jeffrey Patterson.”

According to E-Ticker News of Claremont, before the alleged car theft incident, Patterson was allegedly an accomplice in a purse-snatching incident in that city in late June. He was also arrested in Lebanon earlier this year by local and state police on drug dealing and possession charges, according to WNTK radio.

Patterson is being held on outstanding arrest warrants and will be extradited to New Hampshire at a future date.
