SUV Fire Extinguished on Continental Boulevard

Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams douse vehicle at a gas station this afternoon.

MERRIMACK, NH – Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams were sent to a vehicle fire at just before 1:30 p.m. on June 27, 2016, according to an alert from Fire Marshal John Manuele.

The vehicle – a Nissan Xterra SUV – began smoking and was fully engulfed in flames right near gas tanks at the Gulf station on Continental Boulevard.

Merrimack Police arrived on scene before the first engine and ordered the station to shut down the fuel island, Manuele noted. After that, Merrimack Engines 1 and 2, Assistant Fire Chief Borneman, and Fire Marshal Manuele responded to the scene and hit the fire with a “rapid attack,” knocking the bulk of the fire quickly.

“The crew then forced open the hood and doors and completely extinguished the fire,” Manuele noted.

The owner of the vehicle reportedly stated that he was driving south on the Everett Turnpike and decided to take Exit 11 to fuel up. When he entered the Gulf station, smoke began to billow from under the hood.
