The family of Charles William Roberson is sad to announce his passing on Feb. 16, 2026.
Chuck was born in Little Falls, New York, in 1946. He was one of five children. He is survived by his siblings John Roberson, Marjorie Roberson, and Patricia Roberson Griffith, along with many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents William Nathan Roberson and Alma Knowles Roberson, and his sister Anita Roberson Carelli.
Much of Chuck’s childhood and teen years were spent helping his dad on the farm and showing cattle at local fairs. He graduated from New Milford High School in Connecticut and went on to receive his teaching degree from Western Connecticut State College.

Chuck’s long-standing career in education began at Danbury High School (CT), where he taught mathematics and coached basketball. In 1987, he moved to Greenfield, New Hampshire. Chuck took his talents to Milford High School, where he taught computer programming and coached until his retirement in 2015. It was at Milford that Chuck became the school’s first women’s volleyball coach. During his 26 years with the program (1987-2015), he led the team to the championship game five times, including two state titles.
Chuck’s reach extended far beyond Milford High School. He was one of the founders of HardRock Volleyball, a local New Hampshire club that provided training and tournament opportunities for young athletes. He was dedicated to the growth of the sport and impacted hundreds of players across all of New England. Coach “Robi” Roberson was not just a coach; he was a mentor, a leader, and a friend to many. His unwavering commitment to the sport and the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance inspired players to achieve their best both on and off the court.

Chuck was known for his dry sense of humor and his incredible knowledge of music, history, sports… and really, any other topic that might be found in a Trivial Pursuit game. From college onwards, he enjoyed writing music and performing his songs at high school talent shows, family reunions, and the nursing homes where he recently resided. His many talents made him quite the presence, and for that — and many other reasons — he will be greatly missed.
Arrangements for burial were made by Everett’s Funeral Home in Natick, Massachusetts. He will be interred in Greenvale Cemetery across the lake from his longtime home in Greenfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Coach Roberson Legacy Scholarship (https://hardrockvolleyball.com/scholarship) honoring the remarkable contributions of Coach Robi who dedicated over 40 years to coaching volleyball. This scholarship will provide funding to help cover fees towards participation in HardRock Volleyball.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on April 11, in the Milford High School Cafeteria, 100 West St. in Milford. All are welcome. Bring your memories.
