Today's riddle: What dries when it gets wet? 🤔 (Answer below!)
Weather forecast:
1. Bishop Guertin Tops Nashua North In Granite State Challenge Quarterfinal (patch.com) — Nashua readers can cheer a local academic showdown as Bishop Guertin High School rallied past Nashua North, 415-270, in the Granite State Challenge quarterfinals in Durham. Students and coaches from both Nashua schools reflected on the intense buzzer battle and the fun of competing, while Nashua South prepares to face Profile in next week’s semifinal on NHPBS.
2. Local Event: Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History (All of May) (patch.com) — Nashua residents can join a free nature hike this May as part of the month‑long Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History across 45 communities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. With more than 100 free walks, talks, and cultural experiences, you can build your own itinerary using the festival’s online calendar, interactive map, or mobile app.
3. New Business: Sweet Bel's takes over Axel's in Merrimack; Mobil gas station in Bedford goes for convenience (unionleader.com) — Downtown Nashua is losing a longtime favorite, as San Francisco Kitchen, an Asian restaurant and sushi bar that’s been a staple since the late 1990s, closed on April 30 and will be replaced by a new restaurant. The same business column also highlights a new ice cream and pastry shop in Merrimack and a Mobil station’s shift toward a larger convenience store in Bedford.
4. Israel – Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (state.gov) — A major U.S. arms sale to Israel will be built in part by BAE Systems in Nashua tying a nearly $1 billion defense contract to local industry. The approved deal supplies thousands of precision weapons, with federal officials saying it supports U.S. security interests while not altering the Middle East military balance.
5. Crews ready to rock on landmark Manchester tunnel project (unionleader.com) — Nashua’s stretch of the Merrimack River is a key focus in a massive sewer and stormwater overhaul, as combined sewer overflows from Manchester and other cities have sent hundreds of millions of gallons of untreated sewage downstream. Manchester is now building a 2.25‑mile, $428 million drain tunnel to sharply cut those overflows, a project expected to significantly improve water quality for communities like Nashua that rely on the river.
