Everett Turnpike, I-293 Wrong-Way Driver Was Drunk: State Police
Rachel Barris of Hollis was arrested in Manchester after being accused of driving north in the southbound lane through Bedford Wednesday.

BEDFORD, NH — A New Hampshire woman is due in court next month to face charges after being arrested for wrong-way drunken driving Wednesday. At just before 4 a.m., New Hampshire State Police reportedly received "several emergency calls" from motorists who claimed that a red Subaru Forester was driving north in the southbound lane of the Everett Turnpike. One caller claimed the vehicle went through the Bedford toll plaza in the wrong direction, according to Lt. Bryan Trask of Troop B.
"The vehicle continued traveling northbound on the wrong side of the highway and eventually entered Interstate 293 traveling into the city of Manchester," Trask stated. "Troopers located this vehicle in the area of Exit #7 on I-293 and were able to stop it."
The driver – Rachel Barris, 22, of Hollis – was given a field sobriety test and then arrested on driving while intoxicated and reckless conduct charges. State police estimate that Barris reportedly drove close to 10 miles on the wrong side of the highway before being stopped, the report stated.
