Letters: Romney's Comment Shows How Out of Touch He Is
This letter writer is voting for Obama.

Dear Nashua Patch,
The underlying issue with Romney’s assertions that 47 percent of Americans are irresponsible leeches of the rest of American taxpayers is that he - among many of his fellow Republicans - don’t just say so as a popular talking point, but they actually do believe that almost half of the country's citizens are Obama followers who do nothing but to wait for Welfare checks.
The reality could not be more opposite than that.
Most of those 47 percent of Americans who do not pay income tax are actually not so much Obama fans, since they tend to live in very Republican states. They are either veterans, whom typically lean to the right, or elderly, whom tend to be very conservative, or they are low-income families with many children who actually do work in low/medium income blue collar type of jobs, which qualifies them for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

So Romney’s 47 percent comment not only shows how misinformed and out of touch he is, it shows that he really doesn't even care for his base, the population that would make the bulk of his votes in November, never mind the middle class he usually names in his speeches. He is in the race only for his fellow 1 percenters, the “corporation-people” as only he believes those are.
In contrast with Romney’s comments, President Obama, even as he cares for all Americans, may not get much of that particular 47 percent, let alone the privileged 1 percent, but instead, he’ll get the other 52 percent, and that should be enough to win.
Sincerely,
Giovanny Arguello
