More Nashua Candidates File To Run For Alderman, Education Seats

If and when all the petitions are certified, the 2019 Nashua alderman at-large race will be competitive in November.

NASHUA, NH — After three days of filing, voters in the city of Nashua will have at least one competitive race to vote in. After the first days of filing, four candidates have submitted signatures to run in the alderman at-large race. Lori Wilshire, Benjamin Clemons, and Melbourne Moran Jr. all filed early on Tuesday, with both Wilshire and Clemons being certified for ballot access.

Later Tuesday, Michael B. O'Brien Sr. also filed signatures to run. If his petitions are certified, there will be four people running for the three four-year seats.

Jessica Brown has had her petitions certified in the Board of Education race. Two other candidates – Sharon Giglio and Renata Olsezewski – have also filed to run for five four-year seats.

Kevin Burgess was the first to file for one of three fire commission seats but his petitions have not been certified as of Thursday. Another candidate – Paul Garant, who filed Tuesday – has had his petitions certified. Manuel Pimental also filed to run for the commission.

Joel Ackerman has had his petitions certified for public works while Kevin Moriarty also submitted signatures on Tuesday.

Candidates interested in running for four-year terms for alderman at-large, board of education, fire commission, and board of public works need to file 50 signatures by Sept. 6. Ward alderman, moderator, ward clerk, and selectmen, all two-year terms, will need to file 15 petitions between now and Sept. 6.

Mayor Jim Donchess was the only candidate to file back in June. He will run unopposed in the general election.

Filing forms like acceptance and nomination petitions are available online as well as in the city clerk's office.
