NASHUA, NH — Police in Nashua arrested a man after a five-month investigation into an assault last year.

Around 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2021, police were sent to West Hollis Street for a disturbance report. When they arrived, they found a Nashua man, in his 60s, on the ground, motionless, with several facial injuries. An officer was able to speak with the victim, who stated he did not remember many details but was jumped after he walked out of the Churchside Market.

During the investigation, police reviewed video surveillance and saw three young men walking into the store. One, he said, was recorded striking the victim “multiple times,” sending him to the ground. The reporting officer searched the area and spoke with one man who looked like one of the men seen with the suspect. He told the officer that the man’s name was “Shaun,” but “refused to provide further identifying information,” an affidavit said.

The suspect was later identified as Shaun Michaud, 28, of Searles Road in Nashua.

The victim was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, at first, but the injuries were so serious, he had to be taken to Boston for treatment later. Before being transported, a detective interviewed the victim, who said the suspect, while beating him, accused him of previously stealing from his mother’s vehicle.

The next day, the detective made contact with one of the three men who explained the other two men with brothers and gave him Michaud’s phone number, an affidavit stated. Another Nashua officer also identified Michaud in the surveillance footage, the report said.

On Oct. 27, 2012, the victim, who also suffered from brain bleeding during the attack, was interviewed again. While he did not need surgery, the report said, but he now had calcium deposits in one of his eyes. During the attack, he suffered from a left zygomatic fracture, an orbital floor fracture, and a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

A warrant was issued for Michaud’s arrest on Dec. 14, 2021.

On Sunday, Michaud was arrested on a felony second-degree assault charge. He was Mirandized but declined to provide a statement, police said. Michaud was held on $2,500 cash bail and was arraigned in Hillsborough County Superior Court South. He is due back in superior court for a dispositional conference on May 18.
