MANCHESTER, NH — A Nashua man was arrested by Manchester police on Thursday after reports of an argument with a gun on Merrimack Street led to the department's SWAT being deployed.

Around 6:45 a.m., police were sent to Merrimack Street for a report of an armed man involved in an argument. It was the second time in 48 hours police were sent to the home. In the previous incident, no suspects were located, according to Heather Hamel, the public information officer for the Manchester Police Department.

“When police arrived, a male meeting the description opened the front door and stepped out, but quickly went back inside,” she said.

Police deployed the department’s Bearcat, SWAT team, and also used a K-9, robot, and a drone, in an effort to find the man, later identified as Melvin Campbell, 47, of Nashua — a felon who was wanted on a parole violation. Officers also used a loudspeaker to make announcements to get him to surrender, Hamel said.

“Ultimately, the K-9 found Campbell hiding in a bedroom and he was taken into custody without further incident,” she said. “During a search of the apartment, police did locate a BB gun.”
