NASHUA, NH — A New Hampshire man was arrested on Friday on a murder charge after a stabbing in Massachusetts that killed a Lawrence man, according to the Essex MA County District Attorney’s Office.

Edgardo Carabello, 50, of Nashua was arrested by police at his home on Vegge Drive on a Bay State warrant. Police in Massachusetts accused Carabello of stabbing another man on Broadway in Lawrence at around 9:45 a.m. on Friday. The other man, who was 37 and lived in Lawrence, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“His name is withheld pending family notification,” said Jonathan Blodgett, a district attorney for Essex County.

Carabello is being held in New Hampshire on a fugitive from justice warrant. He will be arraigned for murder in Lawrence District Court if and when he waives extradition and is returned to the state.

Back in March 2010, according to superior court records in New Hampshire, Carabello was accused of multiple first- and second-degree assault charges. The Nashua Telegraph reported Carabello, who was homeless at the time, repeatedly beat another man with a wooden landscaping stave, knocking out the other man’s tooth during a fight inside a home on Ash Street.

During the course of a number of months, the state attempted to determine Carabello's competency to stand trial while his defense attorney made motions to suppress evidence. A newspaper reporter was a witness in the case, according to reports. Documents involved in the case were also sealed. In November 2011, some of the charges were nolle prossed. A jury was selected later. In September 2018, according to the court, exhibits in the case were destroyed.

Nashua NH Patch was unable to confirm the outcome of the charges at post time.
